Bottom Bracket Tips
Some newer bicycles may use a cartridge bottom bracket unit that looks like the one in the
photo below. Depending on the manufacturer, you will need a special wrench to remove it.
Because you will need to use a longer bottom bracket spindle (included in the kit) in order to
have the crank arms clear the motor, you will need to replace the cartridge unit with
conventional bearings and cups as shown in this photo. The bearings and cups are not
included with the kit but may be obtained at a bike shop or in our catalog.
When working on the bottom bracket remember that the crank side is normally a left-
hand thread while the left side of the bike uses a right-hand thread. On the crank side
of the bike, turn the bottom bracket nut clockwise to loosen. On the left side of the bike
turn the nut counter-clockwise to loosen.
